Four people have been arrested and charged with drug-related offences after being stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program.
On Sept. 26, 2023, shortly before 1 a.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE on Centre Street in Espanola.
While a vehicle was stopped at the RIDE, police detected an odour of cannabis coming from the vehicle and four people were arrested. A search of the vehicle was conducted and resulted in police locating drugs, suspected to be cocaine.
As a result of the investigation, Ashley Corbiere-McLean, 20 years old, from M'Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine.
Anawahs Migwans, 21 years old, from M'Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with:
- possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
- drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
- drive motor vehicle - no licence
- operate unsafe vehicle
- operate a motor vehicle without insurance
- driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
Gage Bright, 21 years old, from Toronto has been charged with:
- possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
- possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine
Kaleb Borden, 21 years old, from Thornhill has been charged with:
- possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine\
- obstruct peace officer
The accused persons were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Nov. 6, 2023.
