4 facing drug trafficking charges in Espanola RIDE check

The four were charged after police say officers smelled an odour of cannabis coming from the vehicle during the check

Four people have been arrested and charged with drug-related offences after being stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program.

On Sept. 26, 2023, shortly before 1 a.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE on Centre Street in Espanola.

While a vehicle was stopped at the RIDE, police detected an odour of cannabis coming from the vehicle and four people were arrested. A search of the vehicle was conducted and resulted in police locating drugs, suspected to be cocaine.

As a result of the investigation, Ashley Corbiere-McLean, 20 years old, from M'Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine.

Anawahs Migwans, 21 years old, from M'Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • drive motor vehicle - no licence
  • operate unsafe vehicle
  • operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

Gage Bright, 21 years old, from Toronto has been charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine

Kaleb Borden, 21 years old, from Thornhill has been charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine\
  • obstruct peace officer

The accused persons were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Nov. 6, 2023.
