4 charged after drugs, weapons seized at local townhose

On April 25, 2023, at approximately 10 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant at a townhouse at Spruce Court in Elliot Lake.

As a result of the warrant being executed, a loaded 9mm handgun, a .410 shotgun, approximately $1,200 in cash, over 11 grams of suspected purple Fentanyl, almost 1.5 grams of suspected cocaine, a digital scale, debt list, packaging material, and seven cell phones were seized. Four people in total were arrested and charged.

The OPP's Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), East Algoma Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and uniform members were involved with the investigation.         

Karen Lynn Beaton, 49 years old, of Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin)
  • careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • tampering with serial number of a firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Myranda Francoeur, 28 years old, of Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin)
  • careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • tampering with serial number of a firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Brett Ottaway, 25 years old, of Etobicoke was charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin)
  • careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • tampering with serial number of a firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Braydon Pittman-Beacock, 18 years old, of Caledon was charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin)
  • careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • tampering with serial number of a firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused persons were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on April 26, 2023.
