19-year-old charged following attempted vehicle theft

One person has been arrested and charged as a result of a call for service.

On April 7, 2024 shortly after 1 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service regarding a person who attempted to steal a motor vehicle from a residence on Highway 6 in Whitefish River First Nation.

Further information provided to police was that the person left on foot. Upon arrival, police located this person walking on Highway 6, and they were subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Hunter Armstrong, 19 years old from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, has been charged with:

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on May 7, 2024.
