18-year-old charged in fatal Highway 17 crash

An 18-year-old driver has been charged following a fatal collision that occurred on June 26 on Highway 17 at Sand Bay Road (between McKerrow and Nairn Centre).

Espanola resident Caylee Little stands charged with:
    •    Careless driving causing death, contrary to section 130(3) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
    •    Careless driving causing bodily harm, contrary to section 130(3) of the HTA

A news release issued today by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) states that the vehicle being driven by the accused rear-ended another, resulting in the fatal crash.

The driver, 66-year-old Fern Belanger of Nairn Centre, was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, and later succumbed to those injuries.

The passenger of the vehicle suffered serious injuries, and the accused sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Little is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 18.
