It is with heavy hearts that the family of Margaret Elizabeth Vivyurka announces her peaceful passing on April 11, 2023, in her 83rd year, with her husband Albert at her side.

Margaret will be remembered with love and admiration by Albert, her husband of 62 years, and her sons Douglas, Philip (Sue) and Terry (Elan Wong) as well as her brother Fred McGrath (Anne), sister Eleanore Tribe (Edward - deceased),  granddaughter Cassie (Jared), several cherished nieces and nephews,  and many friends, neighbours and community members.

Margaret is pre-deceased by her parents, Catherine Mary and Duff McGrath  and brother Bill (Shirley)

Margaret was born and raised on a farm near Vermilion, Alberta. She graduated from Vermilion High School and attended Alberta College graduating with Secretarial Training Diploma.  She and Albert had 3 sons in Alberta before coming to Elliot Lake in 1967.

After working in the insurance industry for more than two decades, obtaining her Registered Insurance Broker Licence, along with raising an active family, she eventually retired and started into her passion of volunteering.

Her early volunteering was with Girl Guides of Canada and then the Canadian Cancer Society, organizing and overseeing many daffodil campaigns.

In more recent years, was happily involved with the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, including 2 terms as President and the Elliot Lake Horticultural Society where she was the current President and has been for several years.

Margaret was a devoted volunteer, eventually leading to recognition including the Ontario Hospital Auxiliary Association Award in 2016 and the Elliot Lake Volunteer Civic Award in 2020.

She was an avid gardener (indoor and out), decorator, crafter and homemade jam maker. Her friendly, kind and quiet demeanour, efficient and practical nature, only enhanced her love of family, friends and community.

Margaret will be remembered as an inspirational, caring and selfless woman who brightened the lives of all she knew, and many more she did not. For those who wish, a memorial contribution to St. Joseph's General Hospital in memory of Margaret would be appreciated. Cremation has occurred.

The Celebration of Life in honour of Margaret Vivyurka will be held on Saturday May 13, 2023 from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the Moose Lodge located at 26 Oakland Blvd., Elliot Lake, ON.

The doors to welcome guests will be opened at 12:30 pm with the Celebration starting at 1:00 pm with a light refreshment to follow.

In honour of Margaret, the family will be wearing her favourite colour blue or incorporating a floral pattern. You are welcome to join us in this gesture.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Online condolences to the Vivyurka family may be made at www.elliotlakefuneralchapel.com
