Albert Simon (Bear Standing) of Thessalon First Nation, Eagle Clan, passed away on February 10, 2022 at 80 years of age. His partner Mary of 46 years was by his side as he peacefully entered the spirit world.

Born to the late Susan Giguere-Simon and Adalor Simon on August 4th 1941. Albert was a loving partner to Mary and father to Andrea, Norma, Kim, Lisa, Michael (Rhonda) and Alvin, grandfather to Deriek, William, Sheena, Alexander, Benjamin, Austin, Paige, and Makohns, who he was deeply proud of. Great Grandpa to 10 beautiful great grandchildren. He is now with his brothers Howard and George and dear sister Vicki. He leaves behind his brother, Joey (Michelle), Joan (Roy), Yvonne (Don), Ron (Victoria), and Robert. Albert was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews, and loved his friends deeply. Gordy, Con and Wayne were some of his favourite crazy friends. Albert also enjoyed the times with his daystar friends.

A member for fifty-five years with the International Union of Operating Engineers specializing in crane operations. Albert loved working with his hands, building and fixing things, and served on a number of boards. He had a passion for stock car driving (Car #14), watching western movies and enjoyed the great outdoors. He especially cherished time with his family and friends playing board and dice games.

Albert’s celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, February 16th, 2022 at the Thessalon First Nation Community Hall (40 Sugarbush Road). Current public health guidelines will be followed and visiting hours with the family and remembering Albert will be between 12:00pm-4:00pm. A few words will be shared at 1:00pm. Refreshments and light lunch will be served throughout the time and there will be a Sacred Fire at the Healing Lodge if anyone would like to go for prayer.

The family wishes to thank the staff at both NSHN Thessalon and Blind River sites and the PSWs who helped with Albert’s care.
