Rhiness, Lockie

It is with great sorrow the family announces his passing at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife Louise , his faithful companion poodle Beauty, who refused to leave his bedside. He is survived by his children Darlene Williamson (Don), Gwen MacMurray (Barry),Chad Rhiness (Teresa), Paul Rhiness (Darcy),Dawn Eaket and Dale Rhiness (Lynn). Predeceased by his son Wade and daughter Sandra and son in law David. Loving Grandfather to Jamie, Jessica, Trevor, Megan, Michelle, Samantha, Shawn and Special Papa to Nicholas (Josee) and Jenna and great grandfather to 3 granddaughters. Lockie was a true adventurist and skilled outdoorsman. Many called him "Lucky" because of his successful fishing trips. He could often be found by many experienced Trappers deep in the wilderness huddled over a small fire at a favourite secret fishing hole. His late son in law David often likened his guided fishing/hunting excursions to walking with a mountain goat as a companion because few could keep up with him. He was an avid hunter and taught many who were willing to learn how to "dog"for deer. Lockie worked as a miner for many years, first at Inco in Sudbury in the early 60's and in 1978 his career brought him to Elliot Lake where he worked for Denison Mines until his retirement in 1992. Lockie was not a shy man, he enjoyed sharing stories of his youthful adventures and was quick to come up with a joke or twenty to anyone lending an ear. Many will remember him as a strong, hard working man and the only thing stopping him from working was the illness that in the end took his life. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Elliot Lake Palliative Care Program would be greatly appreciated by the family. As per his wishes, a private ceremony will be held for his closest friends and family at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel &Cremation Centre.
