Margaret Beaton Martin (Rita), age 78, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, July 29th, 2018 at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake. She was born on September 11th, 1939, in Glasgow, Scotland to James and Margaret Hubbert. She married James Martin on January 28th, 1961. Loving mother of Paul (Sharon), Stephen (Candace), Tracy (Craig) and Scott (Tanya). Proud grandmother of Derek, Jenna, Hannah, Jaime and Sophia. She was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents and her only brother, James Hubbert. Rita faced many challenges and difficulties over the years but placed her faith and confidence in the Lord, which sustained her. She devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren. Rita loved life and the people around her; she exuded kindness and compassion and always thought of others before herself. She enjoyed spending time with her countless friends, watching curling, playing scrabble, volunteering and being involved in many activities at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 7th from 7-9pm and Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 8th , 2018 at 10am, both from Our Lady of Fatima Church. Father Paul Conway officiating. Internment will follow at Woodlands Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Women’s Auxiliary at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake or to the Elliot Lake Palliative Care Program. Rita’s family would like to thank Dr. A. Purzner, Dr. M. Stirling, Dr. J. Long, Dr. D. Matheson and the third floor nursing staff of St. Joseph’s General Hospital for the exceptional care provided. Also, thank you to wonderful “family” and friends for their love and support during this time.
