It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Madigan: a man of formidable character, profound faith, and an eternally youthful heart and mind.
Loving husband of Judy (Stephens, McGinn) and the late Joan (Killoran, 1999); proud father of William Jr. (2015), Marilynne (Craig Milne) and Shawn (2019); beloved family of Kathleen (Michael McKenna) Michael (Nai-Chi Teng) and Mary-Beth (Dave Beyer); Papa to Krystle Madigan; cherished Grandfather and leader of shenanigans to young Grace, Carter, Zoey and Emma.
Bill led an exemplary life as a Labour Relations expert. He was a force for good at a time where the management – union divide seemed impossible to bridge. His reputation as an astute, fair and morally upright negotiator earned him long-term appointments to the Ontario Relations Board and to The Human Rights Tribunal by the Lieutenant Governor of that time. Bill continued to work for the common good without missing a beat, well into his eighties.
Throughout his entire life, Bill remained a modern, connected man of the world. He enjoyed planning travel just as much as the adventure. He would read any piece of high-quality business literature he could get his hands on and was known to speak with passion on topics ranging from politics, the economy and the state of the market. He delighted in the people around him – especially his family – but most notably, his grandchildren who always knew in their hearts that despite his late age, he really was one of them.
There was no denying that mischievous twinkle in those baby-blue eyes.
Bill often reserved his gentle soul and deeply spiritual nature for those that were closest to him. Privately, he was an avid writer, poet, and a man who has known the pain and beauty of this world most intimately. He was generous with his heart to those he loved and his faith and love sustained throughout his life.
He maintained his incredible joy and enthusiasm for life all the way to the end.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Deverell who really overshot the call of duty for Bill again and again. We know Bill respected, trusted and admired you greatly. And to the brave, hard-working and compassionate team at North Shore Health Network, especially Andrea Smith. Thank you for everything you did to make Bill’s last days as comfortable as possible.
