Lavin, Joyce (Feb. 19, 2024)

With heavy hearts, our family said good bye to our hero, mentor, loving wife of 57 yrs, mother, grandmother and GG (great grandmother), A.K.A. Grandma Joyce.

Joyce worked 32 yrs as a surgical ward clerk at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a devoted worker and respected colleague. When she rang her golden bell, they knew she needed assistance.

Joyce loved life to the fullest! Her sweet smile, laugh and many hugs given daily were appreciated by all. Travelling over the years in Europe and Ontario with Brian, friends and daughters. She loved gardening, her flowers, luncheons, bingos, shopping, excursions, crafts, but most of all, family was her number one priority. Joyce shared with everyone the excitement of becoming a great grandmother and meeting Brooks made her light up like a Christmas tree. Pure Joy!

She touched our lives each day with her outpouring love, friendship and caring ways.

Joyce is survived by the love of her life, soulmate Brian, loving daughters who will miss her dearly, Karen (Larry), Wendy (Kevin), her precious grandsons she was so proud of, Justin (Jenn), Jeremy (Marissa) and her shining star, great grandson Brooks. She is also survived by her step son Bill (Lisa), Brian (Summer) and step grandchildren, Gabriella, Luca and Nicholas. Her extended family which was very special to her, Cathy, Aiden (Jill), Kieran (Hunter) who knew her as Grandma Joyce.

No words could ever express the gratitude to EMS for their professionalism and caring ways. To Dr. Bouchard & Dr. Sebastian, thank you for your professionalism and compassion. No words can ever express to the ER staff, Jeff, Jenna and Susan for their love and compassion with our mother Joyce. Thank you to Jim Graham for his kind words and prayers which kept our family strong. Joyce was surrounded by her guardian angels that kept her family strong during this very difficult day. Forever in our hearts, you know who you are. We also wish to thank Josianne Régis of Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre for her professionalism and caring ways.

On Saturday May 4th, 2024, a private family graveside committal service will be held at Woodlands Cemetery in Elliot Lake. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Renaissance Senior Centre in Elliot Lake from 1-3 pm.

As per her wishes, memorial contributions to the Children’s Wish Foundation (www.childrenswish.ca)or Canadian Wildlife Federation (www.cwf-fcf.org) would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Online condolences to Joyce’s family may be made at www.elliotlakefuneralchapel.com
