Hyndman, Betty 1

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Betty Marie Hyndman (Hannah) on September 20th 2022, in Orleans ON.

Our beloved Mother, Mother in Law, Grandmother and lifelong companion to recently departed Husband and Father Ted. Betty was a very dedicated, strong, and kind mother and our family was blessed to have her.

Betty spent the majority of her life as an educator from her first position at 18 years old, teaching grades 1-6 in a one room school house in a farming community north of Kingston. Fell in love and married her sweetheart Ted and moved to Elliot Lake. They were married for 63 years.

Betty was one of the first group of teachers in Elliot Lake in the early days of the city, Dieppe School was her first posting. She later became a full time teacher, as well as a speech therapist. She continued to supply teach late into her 60s.

Betty was a fiercely dedicated mom to all of her children. Being a mother was one of the most important parts of Betty’s life, a role that gave Betty much joy. Family always came first and when she wasn’t filling the home with warmth and kindness Betty could be found playing a variety of sports and enjoying all outdoor activities. Not to mention the countless hours she spent with the 3 children at the arenas with hockey and figure skating and whatever other interests they had at that moment. She was always their biggest cheerleader. The hole left by her absence will be impossible to fill.

Betty is survived by her 3 children, Craig, Andrea (Satnam) , Michael (Lenore), her four beloved grandchildren Tyler, Aiden, Conner and Hannah and her 4 step-grandchildren Bekky (Chris), Trevor (Kristen), Jenny, Brian (Alex) and great grandchild Charlee. Also survived by her older brother Harold Hannah (Late wife Kaye) and Step brother in law Arthur (Elizabeth) Appleton.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and PSWs at Willowbend Retirement Community in Orleans for their compassionate care of their Mother and Father. They also would like to thank the Doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elliot Lake and Ottawa General Hospital for the care of both their parents, throughout the years.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave. Elliot Lake, ON) on Saturday October 22nd at 11:00am with Deacon Joseph O’Neill officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Palliative Care at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake, 70 Spine Road, Elliot Lake, ON P5A 1X2
