We are sad to inform you of the passing of Raymond Hortness on April 18, 2023 at the age of 75. He was the father of Caroline (Paul), Danica, and Natalie (Lee). He was Papa Ray to Nicholas and Clark Kennedy. He is survived by his brother Eric, predeceased by his sister Carole.

His daughters remember him best by his signature glasses and Tilley hats, dad jokes, his love of pineapple mousse and Ruben sandwiches, his terrible morning wake up songs, and how he took fashion cues from no one.

Ray was well known for his long, entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often and at length. His passion for sailing was legendary, as was his iconic mustache. He loved to try to make people laugh and he made full use of his dad licence to make terrible jokes to the groans of many.

He spent his final years in Elliot Lake where he made wonderful friends, frequented delightful & friendly establishments and enjoyed sailing his boat, The Cadana to his heart’s content. He enjoyed his retirement by dabbling in numerous hobbies which includes skiing (painfully), different musical instruments, choir, various arts, golf, writing classes and of course sailing.

As per his wishes he does not want a funeral or service but we do encourage well wishers to enjoy a large glass of red wine or a stiff rum and coke and drink in his honour. In lieu of sending flowers or the like, we strongly encourage any who so wish to donate to The Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation on his behalf. https://cpff.ca/donate/

Sail on old sailor, may the wind forever be at your back and fill your sails.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Online condolences to the Hortness family may be made at www.elliotlakefuneralchapel.com
