In Loving Memory of James Wilfred George

March 24, 1937 - June 12, 2023

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of James George, a beloved father, husband, and grandfather. James departed from this world on June 12, 2023, leaving a legacy of love, kindness and a life well-lived. While we mourn his loss, we celebrate the incredible impact he had on our lives and the countless memories he leaves behind.

James was born on March 24, 1937, in the picturesque town of Millertown Junction, Newfoundland. He was a man who lived a life to the fullest, embodying a spirit of jolliness that could light up any room. His laughter and quiet wit brought joy to those around and created an atmosphere of happiness wherever he went. James had a remarkable ability to find humour in life’s challenges and his positive outlook was an inspiration to all who knew him.

James was a hardworking individual, known for his dedication and perseverance in all that he pursued. His work ethic and determination earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and made him a wonderful friend to have on your side, someone you could always count on.

James had a passion for baking bread; and the scent of freshly baked loaves that filled his home was a testament to his love for the craft. His bread not only provided everyone with full bellies and full hearts but also embodied the warmth and love he brought to family functions.

In addition to his admirable qualities, James was a loyal and devoted husband. He was blessed with two great loves in his life. After the passing of his first wife, Emma, he found love and companionship with his second wife, Candice. Together they created a beautiful bond, filled with love, laughter and shared experiences. Candice survives James and will forever hold him close in her heart.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Candice, brother Winston, his Children; Karen (Paul), Ramona (Gordon), Wildred (Nancy), Chester (Sherry), Ralph (Caroline), Sherry (Karl), Jason (Johanne), David (Jill), Cory (Winnie); his Grandchildren; Tracey, Michelle, Chris, Nancy, Roxanne, Darryl, Cody, Courtney, Amanda, Brittany, Chloe, Sarah, Sheldon, Kailyn, Justyn, Terri-Anna, Trent, Chelsea, Alexandra, Tyler, Brandon, Kristen, Nathanie, Noah and Lily; 21 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-grandchild. Predeceased by his first love, Emma, his granddaughter Skye, his daughter Sharon, parents Elizabeth & Stanley George, his sisters Kathleen, Edith, May, Emily, Irene, Ella, and his brothers William, Robert, Verden, & Howard.

He loved hunting when he was younger and watching hockey. He also loved watching his 3 boys playing hockey when we grew up in Newfoundland. Whenever he got a chance to sneak away from work he would come and watch.

James, along with his beloved wife Candice, and Candice’s sister Fay and her husband John, shared many memorable weekend trips. These journeys were filled with adventure, laughter, and the joy of exploring new places together. Whether they were rediscovering old favourites or embarking on scenic drives, their shared experiences created bonds and lasting memories.

A private celebration of Jame’s life will be held in Elliot Lake. In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Oncology fundraiser in memory of James George (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-josephs-foundation-of-elliot-lake/).

He will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends, all of whom were touched by his presence.

Rest in peace, dear James. Your humour, wisdom, and loving spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Online condolences to the George family may be made at www.elliotlakefuneralchapel.com
