September 12, 1943 – October 29, 2022

Passed away peacefully at HSN-Sudbury with her beloved daughter, Carolyn and her brother-in-law Noli and sister-in-law Imelda by her side. Cherished mother of Carolyn Silverio-Atkinson (Brian). Beloved Grandma “Lola” of Thomas, Erin and Grace. Sister of the late Dr. Henry Clarite (Trinidad). Fondly remembered by many family members and friends here, in the U.S.A and the Philippines.

Carmelita dedicated her life to helping others. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 45 years starting as a Frontier Nurse in the Philippines. After immigrating to Canada in 1965 she worked in Kingston for 5 years at Hotel Dieu before coming to St. Joseph Hospital in Blind River in 1970. She retired from nursing at age 55 but continued to work 5 more years at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake.

She had a love for animals especially dogs and her cats. She also enjoyed gardening, having a very gifted green thumb. Carmelita was very dedicated to both her Filipino culture and her Roman Catholic faith.

The family wishes to thank the staff at NSHN-Blind River and NSH-Sudbury, as well as Home and Community Care Support Services North East for their care.

Donations to St. James the Greater Parish in Blind River or to a charity of your choice that supports animal causes such as S.P.C.A, World Wildlife Fund Canada or that support vulnerable children and families such as World Vision.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate mass for Carmelita at Holy Cross Parish, 14400 Argyll Rd, Georgetown on Saturday, November 26, 2022 beginning at 1030am. Carmelita will be laid to rest in Cebu Memorial Park in the Philippines.
