ANDREWS, Lydia Jane (nee MacMillan)

It is with sad hearts, the family announce the passing of Lydia Jane (MacMillan) Andrews, wife of the late Tony Andrews, in her 89th year, on May 9th, 2023. She was born in Whycocomagh, Cape Breton, the daughter of Rose and John Geddie. The mother of Kathy, Faye (Don), Kalvin (Wendy), and Cheryl. Grandmother to Tyler, Brandon, Brett (Nikki), Kristen, Brooke, Stacie (Jordan), Kory (Chantelle), Natasha (Greg), and Kyle. Great-grandmother to Roman, Miles, Jordon, Emerson, Austin, Oliver and aunt to many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her sisters, Christine (late George) and Jessie (late Graham).

In mother’s early life, she worked in Halifax as a phone operator. Then in the 1950’s, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and proudly served at the Falconbridge Radar Air Base. She met and married the love of her life Tony, and moved to Elliot Lake in 1960, where she spent the rest of her life. Lydia was an avid curler during her life and was always involved in the Legion and the Lions club.

A thank you to the nurses on the 1st and 3rd floors of St. Joseph’s hospital in Elliot Lake for your caring and compassionate care during mom’s time in hospital. A special thank you to Robert and Carol for all your support.

According to her wishes, there will be no funeral. Her ashes will be returned home to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Now at peace with her beloved Tony.
