WHL Roundup: Royals continue rolling, Blazers blank Rockets

VICTORIA — The Victoria Royals continued rolling Friday, posting a 4-2 victory over the Prince George Cougars in Western Hockey League play. 

Gannon Laroque, Marcus Almquist, Wyatt Wilson and Riley Gannon scored for the Royals (22-34-6), who stretched their win streak to five straight games. 

The Cougars got a pair of goals from Reily Heidt as they dropped to 20-35-3 on the season. 

Victoria's Tyler Palmer came up big with 31 saves and Tyler Brennan stopped 20-of-23 shots for Prince George.

LANGLEY, B.C. — Lukas Svejkovsky scored twice and Seattle (37-17-6) snapped a two-game losing skid with a victory over Vancouver (23-31-4). The Giants penalty kill was pressed into action often, with the Thunderbirds going 1 for 7 on the power play.

EVERETT, WASH. — A hat trick and an assist from Niko Huutanen fuelled Everett's big win over Spokane (19-36-5). The Silvertips (42-10-8) are on a three-game win streak while the Chiefs have dropped four in a row.

PORTLAND, ORE. — Gabe Klassen scored twice and contributed a pair of helpers as Portland (41-15-5) routed Tri-City (17-38-5). The Winterhawks hold an 8-1-2 edge in the season series.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. -- A 41-save performance from Dylan Garand powered Kamloops (44-14-2) to its ninth straight win. Logan Stankoven added two goals and an assist. Kelowna (34-19-6) has lost seven in a row.

SASKATOON — Marek Schneider's first WHL goal held up as the game winner as Saskatoon (34-22-4) snapped a two-game skid. Logan Nijhoff scored the lone tally for Regina (23-30-5) on a first-period power play.

RED DEER, ALTA. — Chase Coward stopped all 13 shots he faced as Red Deer (40-17-4) blanked Medicine Hat (11-44-4). Vancouver Canucks prospect Arshdeep Bains had a goal and an assist for the Rebels.

OIL KINGS 5 HURRICANES 2

LETHBRIDGE, ALTA. — Edmonton (46-12-3) scored four straight before Brayden Edwards got Lethbridge (26-29-4) on the board 11:14 into the third period. He added a second strike just over three minutes later but the powerful Oil Kings snatched another decisive win.

WHEAT KINGS 5 RAIDERS 3

BRANDON, MAN. — Nolan Ritchie tallied two goals and two assists as Brandon (29-24-5) downed Prince Albert (24-30-5) to snap a six-game skid. The Wheat Kings special teams were clicking, going 2 for 4 on the power play and scoring a short-handed tally midway through the second.
