Wonderful end to this year's Winterfest (3 photos)

Winterfest has come and gone and on the last day of the weekend, the Elliot Lake Ski Racers showed their competitive side by competing in the Joe Sarich Classic races

On the last day of Winterfest, the Elliot Lake Ski Racers were on day two of competition for the Joe Sarich Classic races. Racers came from Adanac Ski Hill in Sudbury as well as Searchmont near Sault Ste Marie.

Also on the last day of Winterfest, Mount Dufour Ski Hill hosted the sled box derby, which drew a crowd of children wanting to show off their artistic talents.

Participating in the sled box derby, nine-year-old Sacha Quenneville said she had a blast watching and participating in her first sled box derby.

"Winter is about fun and doing things you don't normally get a chance to do so when my mom told me about this, I wanted to participate and just have fun," she said. "I love winter and want to do this again next year."

Also participating in the ski races, Daniel Fraser from Searchmont explained how much he adores skiing.

"Skiing is my passion and I love to let loose on the slopes," he explained. "I like competing. It's fun and you get to try new slopes and experience new cities."

Concluding the Winterfest activities, residents were treated to a fireworks display at the ski hill.

Taking his two children to see the display, James Robinson said his children have been looking forward to the fireworks all weekend.

"Even though the fireworks are on a Sunday, it's a nice way to end the weekend full of activities around town. We look forward to this every year."
