For the next 16 days, Canadians will be tuning in to watch the 2018 Olympic games, held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

While some residents prefer to watch hockey, others will be watching figure skating.

ElliotLakeToday took to the streets to see what sporting event peaks the interests of its readers.

When asked if she had an interest in watching the Olympic games, Jenny Labrosse said she's not interested in watching events due to her lack of interest in sports.

"Never been interested in them," she explained. "I wasn't raised watching sports and it's not something I'm going to do just to follow everyone else."

Any bobsledding events or skiing events, whether it be grand slalom or even moguls, has Natalie DesGroseilliers glued to the TV to support our athletes.

"I so love watching," she explained. "Since I was little, my favourite was bobsledding and all kinds of skiing. My most favourite was figure skating. It's exciting to see our competitors rank first, second or third in the world."

Living only two hours away, Lively native Meagan Duhmel has a wide fanbase. Duhamel will be competing in pairs figure skating with partner Eric Radford and fellow Lively native Kayla Condotta is excited to cheer her on.

"I'm excited for figure skating as I want to watch Meagan Duhamel skate and her partner," she explained. "Meagan is a local from Lively. They've changed the arena sign to cheer her on."

Also ready to cheer on our athletes, Roberta Shawbonquit-Bailey is hoping to catch some luge action on TV.

"I enjoy figure skating, luge, skiing and bobsled," she expressed.

Proud to be Canadian, Charlene Puzak said she will be cheering on our athletes because of all the sacrifices and hard work they have put into these games.

"I always watch the Olympics so I can cheer for our Canadian athletes," she explained. "Why? Because I am proud to be Canadian and those athletes have worked hard and have made a lot of sacrifices to get where they are and as a country, we should be giving them all the support we can."

It doesn't matter what sport will be televised, Jaclyn Laronde said she will be watching any event.

"I love the Olympics," she said. "Love all the sports. I will be definitely be watching."

Hockey is the sport that John Newell will be watching and according to him, "Nothing makes watching Olympic hockey like iced cold beer, pizza and wings."

"Hockey is the sport that I look forward to during the winter games," he said. "I get my brothers, two sons-in-law and a couple of nephews over in my man cave and we get pizza, beer and wings."

If you are not an early riser, another presentation of the opening ceremonies of the 2018 Winter Olympics will be aired on CBC at 9 p.m.
