What to do this summer in Elliot Lake

From Heritage Days to Lumber Jack Days, there's so much going on in Elliot Lake this summer!

There are a lot of fun things planned for Elliot Lake, this summer.

Heritage Days has a Street Dance planned for June 30 at the Centennial Arena. Gates open at 6 p.m. Bands start at 6:45 p.m. This is a 19+ licensed event. Advance tickets are $30; $40 at the gate. Tickets are available online at the Elliot Lake Website and at Collins Hall. Collins Hall will be open for ticket sales Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Headliners: The Trews; opening artists: Graham Scott Fleming and The Shed Jammers.

Earlier on June 30 there is a Home/Business Decorating Contest, with the theme being Canadian Summer. Submit a photo of your entry online. The deadline is Monday, July 3.

Saturday, July 1, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. there is an Aquafit Class at Spruce Beach. Later in the day, from 12 noon to 3 p.m., there will be a 2023 Beach Party sponsored by Weir, with a sandcastle contest, face painting and music.

On Sunday, July 2, is the Heritage Days Fun Run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. You must register in advance for this event.

There will be a Brunch at the Renaissance Seniors Centre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with tickets $17 and $8 for those 10 and under.

On July 2 there are two Geology Tours scheduled, one between 9:30 a.m. and noon, and the second from 1 to 3:30 p.m. You must register at [email protected] or by calling 705-848-2287, ext. 2402.

Yoga in the Park with Talhia is scheduled for July 2 at Westview Park from 2 to 3 p.m.

There will be a Children’s Bike Rodeo on July 12, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Collins Hall. “Children aged 5 to 12 will have a hands-on opportunity to learn and practise bike handling and traffic skills. They will also learn about road and helmet safety with help from the OPP and Algoma Public Health.”

Summer In the Park Entertainment Concert Series runs from 2 to 4 p.m. with free admission at Westview Park. On July 16, performers will be Jim Graham, Mark Robinson and Peter Evans. On Aug. 13, Harmony will be performing. On Sept. 10, Four Wheel Country.

Lumber Jack Days run from Aug. 5 to 6 at Mississagi Park.

The following events are not hosted by the City of Elliot Lake but should be noted.

The Gentle Shepherd Church is hosting a Children’s Soap Box Derby on July 15. A Children’s Fishing Derby is planned for July 22 at Westview Park, hosted by Charles Deraiche, who can be reached at 705-849-7252.

The YMCA will be hosting a Summer Day Camp starting July 4 at Collins Hall and running for eight weeks. For more information go to this link.
