Voodoos edge Red Wings 3-2

The Voodoos turned the game around with two quick goals in the third period

Elliot Lake Red Wings made the drive to the Sportsplex in Powassan Friday night and came back with a narrow loss.

The Voodoos had come off a 2-1 overtime win over Sudbury the night earlier. Red Wings lost 5-2 to Hearst last Sunday in their previous outing.

Getting started in Powassan, Red Wings forward Silas Crawford scored at 12:26 of the first. He was assisted by Brodie Kearns and Devin Shoreman.

The Voodoos answered back at 9:46 of the second stanza when Caleb Van de Ven got a puck past Elliot Lake netminder Cameron Smith.

One more Elliot Lake goal came in the dying minutes of the second when Alex Antoine got past Voodoos goalie Owen Wray at 18:58. He was assisted by Calum McGill.

Head into the third, the Red Wings led 2-1.

The Voodoos turned the game around with two quick goals, first from Chase MacQueen-Spence at 6:17 and, seconds later, the winner at 6:24, from Alex Little on the powerplay.

Powassan squeaked by Elliot Lake 3-2 for the win.

Voodoos netminder Owen Wray claimed the victory stopping 24 of the 26 shots that came his way.

Red Wings goalie Cameron Smith made 36 saves on 39 shots in the loss.

The Voodoos season record improved 25-7-4-1, and the Red Wings are at 9-24-1-0.

Other NOJHL Friday night play saw Hearst Lumberjacks take Great Sudbury Cubs 2-1, in the first overtime.

Blind River beat the Express in Espanola 5-2.

The Red Wings play their first home game of the restarted season tomorrow night when they host Hearst Lumberjacks in Centennial Arena at 7 p.m.
