Blind River mayor Sally Hagman acknowledged the land safeguarding of Indigenous people throughout the area for their work in preserving the lands and nature during her address to council Monday evening.

“As we begin this evening’s meeting, we take time to acknowledge and recognize, that today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. We would like to begin by acknowledging that the land on which we are gathered is in the traditional territory of the Anishinabek, specifically, Mississauga First Nation, as well as the Huron Regional Métis Community,” she said.

“We say miigwetch and offer thanks to the Indigenous peoples for taking care of this land from time immemorial. We are all called to treat this sacred land, its plants, animals, stories and its peoples with honour and respect.”
