Shammah Jolayemi, the 14-year-old Toronto boy who was abducted Wednesday morning and the subject of an Amber Alert in the early hours of Thursday morning, has been found safe.

The Toronto Police Service reported via Twitter shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday night that Jolayemi had been found safe and was being taken to hospital.

Further details were limited Thursday night and the Toronto Police Service also said a press conference was planned for Friday morning to update the situation.

Police reported that Jolayemi was abducted around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning near Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue in northern Toronto.

In a press conference on Thursday, Supt. Steve Watts said police were called to the area around the time of the abduction after witnesses reportedly heard cries for help but added that the incident wasn't connected to the abduction until later in the day when Jolayemi's parents reported him missing.

Jolayemi's parents reported him missing at around 5:30 Wednesday evening and his high school had reportedly failed to notify his family that he was absent.

A vehicle matching the description of the Jeep Wrangler reportedly involved in the abduction was found near Caledon, Ont. and had been burned out, according to Watts.

In speaking to reporters Thursday, Watts also said that the abduction could have been connected to a drug "rip" involving his stepbrother in the summer of 2019 involving roughly 100 kilos of cocaine.
