'Tis the season to be jolly at Harvest Kitchen food bank

Food security program holds first annual Christmas lunch, serving 115 meals in Elliot Lake, delivering 35 meals to seniors in Spanish

The first annual Harvest Kitchen Christmas Lunch was held Friday as volunteers served 115 meals and also delivered 35 meals to seniors in Spanish.

The Harvest Kitchen team sent out thanks the entire community and their amazing volunteers for their ongoing support of this food security program. 

They also thanked the Elliot Lake Young Voices Choir and the Our Lady of Fatima School Choir for their performance.

The talented singers braved the weather to sing Christmas carols and spread some holiday cheer fo lunch guests. Their music brought smiles to many faces. 

The Harvest Kitchen program is an ongoing collaboration between Maplegate House for Women, the Elliot Lake Emergency Foodbank and the Elliot Lake Royal Canadian Legion. 

The food security program began on Oct. 31 and will run until April. It operates three days a week and serves an average of 138 meals daily. 

The program will be closed for the holidays and will resume serving lunch on Jan. 4.
