Tickets now available for ELATE's production of 'Tempting Providence'

The new production will be performed February 23 and 24

The Elliot Lake Amateur Theater Ensemble (ELATE) is presenting a play entitled Tempting Providence.

This play will come to life at the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre Feb. 23 and 24.

The play is by Robert Chafe and is based on a true story about nurse Myra Bennett. In the 1920s, she was hired to be the district nurse serving a number of remote out port communities along 200 miles of the west coast of Newfoundland. No roads were available at that time. Using a telegraph was the only way to communicate. Travelling was done by either by foot or by boat.

She was hired for two years. After this, she married and stayed for 50 years. For most of that time, she worked for free, ministering to both the minor and major health care needs of the inhabitants.

The play celebrates the life of nurse Myra Bennett who is revered by her community. The Nurse Myra Bennett Foundation of Daniel's Harbour, N.L., maintains her home as a museum and promotes her life of service to the community.

ELATE's production of Tempting Providence is directed by Murray Finn. The production will display the talents of local actors Kim Arnold, Jim Graham, Fran Perkins and newcomer David Black.

Advanced tickets for the play can be purchased at Alpine Flowers and Gifts in the Paris Plaza for $20.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
