For those who enjoy listening to original authors and poets read their work, you will want to attend an open-mike event, The Spoken Word, coming in May.

The Elliot Lake Writers Workshop will be presenting an open-mike event at Dunlop Lake Lodge on May 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. with nine of their ten members taking part.

The participating authors include Reg Couldridge, David Ferguson, Kathleen Burke, Jane Platten, Metwai Nagle, Donald Roberts, Nicole Q-Schmit, Cally Jo Fritz, and Audrey Austin.

Austin, the workshop’s facilitator, said Jane Platten worked with Dunlop Lake Lodge to organize the event. “We’re just hoping to get an audience,” said Austin.

Many of the workshop members are published authors and they will have copies of their books on sale at the event. They will also be available for signing.

After the readings, those attending are welcome to stay for a fish-and-chips dinner purchased from Dunlop Lake Lodge.

The Elliot Lake Writers Workshop meets the third Monday of the month at the ELNOS Centre Board Room, 3rd floor, at 1 p.m. New members are welcome and encouraged to bring samples of their writing to be read for a five-minute period for critique, with printed copies for meeting participants.

For more information, contact Audrey Austin by email at [email protected], or message her on Facebook.
