Sun shines on Elliot Lake Winterfest

Even Mother Nature had fun with the city's annual winter carnival

After several days of inclement weather in Elliot Lake, the sun was out and temperatures around -1C for the city’s annual Winterfest.

Hundreds of children and their parents showed up at Spruce Beach for the outdoor activities that were part of Winterfest, while hundreds took in the Senior’s craft fair at the Collins Hall and more on Saturday evening for fireworks and fun at Mount Dufour ski hill.

At the outdoor venue, people took part a wide range of events from horse-drawn sleigh rides and dog sled rides, a fishing derby for children under 10, marshmallows roasted over an open fire, free hotdogs and hot chocolate, playing on the beach playground equipment, sliding on snow hills and from the iconic rock out on Elliot Lake, a model plane demonstration and listening to music.

It was also an opportunity to meet friends and make new friends.

Winterfest is hosted by the city and supported by several sponsors who provided a range of items for the event, everything from firewood to hot chocolate. It also saw a number of volunteers donate their time.
