Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Elliot Lake

Environment Canada warns of severe thunderstorms that can create very strong wind gusts up to 100 km/h, heavy rain and up to nickel-size hail

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake

At 4:10 p.m., Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts up to 100 km/h, heavy rain and up to nickel-size hail 

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 10 km north of Wenebegon Lake to eight km west of Ranger Lake, moving east at 50 km/h.

Locations impacted include Aubinadong River Provincial Park, Aubrey Falls Provincial Park, Wenebegon River Provincial Park, Wakami Lake Provincial Park, Ranger Lake, Wenebegon Lake and Wakami Lake.

Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Go indoors and move away from windows and skylights. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
