Seven new COVID-19 cases reported by Public Health Sudbury and Districts, one new outbreak for Monday August 30

There are now 41 active cases being monitored by local health officials in the Sudbury District

Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) has reported seven new cases of COVID-19 in the local jurisdiction for Aug. 30.

The health unit is also reporting there are now 41 active cases being monitored.   There is also one new workplace outbreak involving CP Rail workers.

Also, since the PHSD began tracking COVID-19 cases just over 18 months ago, there have been 2,281 total COVID-19 cases confirmed locally. PHSD also said 2,240 of those cases are now resolved. 

There are also 1,065 cases that are "confirmed or presumed to be" positive for variants of concern. This is an increase of six new cases since the last testing.   

The details were outlined on the PHSD website. 

As for the possible location of new cases, PHSD said seven news cases were reported to have occurred in Greater Sudbury.

With respect to the possible causes of recent cases, PHSD reported there were six cases of close contact with known cases, two cases were travel-related and five additional cases were reported with no known epidemiological link. There was also a decrease of six cases that were under investigation. 

PHSD also reported general demographics each day about the people who are becoming infected.

Epidemiological data showed that the majority of local cases are persons in the 20 to 39 age category with 756 total cases (An increase of six).

The next highest group number was 566 cases for the 40 to 59 age group (No increase).

The next highest number was 553 cases for the 19 and under age group (An increase of one).

Seniors in the 60 to 79 age group amounted to 305 cases total (No increase). 

People aged 80 and over are currently the lowest category with 96 cases (No increase).

The numbers above might not correspond to other numbers being reported because the health unit does not report fresh numbers daily, as they happen. Some of the numbers are delayed.

 With respect to COVID-19 testing, 281,085 tests have been performed in the PHSD region; an increase of 1566 since the last testing results. With respect to new vaccinations, the health unit reported there are 245,056 total accumulated vaccines in the local jurisdiction. This also includes 112,016 of those who are fully vaccinated. 

The health unit webpage has also reported there is a new active COVID-19 outbreak involving workers for the CP Rail basic track maintenance crew at Cartier. The outbreak on Manitoulin Island at the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory is also still active.

Also, at Sudbury's Health Sciences North, as of Aug. 30 there were four patients with confirmed COVID-19 at the hospital, said the HSN website. Two of the four patients are in the Intensive Care Unit. In addition to this there were six admitted patients "being tested" for COVID-19. HSN said none of those patients being tested has been admitted to the ICU at this time. 

On the provincial COVID-19 roster today, the Ontario government daily website reported 694 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported zero new COVID-19 deaths had occurred in the past 24 hours.
