It's coming to Elliot Lake next month - the Unconventional Holiday Review from Toronto-based Second City.

The show is part of this season's Elliot Lake Entertainment Series and plays on Nov. 30, at 7:30 pm in Collins Hall, Hillside North.

Here's how Second City describes it.

"Nothing’s too sacred for this squad of comedy stars in the making: holiday film classics, family gatherings, beloved Christmas carols and even Rudolph gets a wicked holiday slant in this fast-paced, interactive show filled with style, wit, and plenty of that famous Second City improv!"

One of the players is Christan Smith. He's now in rehearsal along with five other aspiring comedians at their Merton Street, Toronto headquarters, getting ready to take the show on the road.

The stars include a music director who comes on stage with the cast, and also plays the piano.

"There will be some audience participation at different points," Smith said. "So typically we will bring up some sketches when there's not just us on stage. Every once in awhile we'll have a sketch or a scene that will go to the audience for suggestions or go to the audience to bring an audience member on stage."

Is the show really for adults only?

"The show has adult content," said Smith. He said it's up to parents to decide if they need to leave their kids at home with the baby sitter.

"Different children have different understanding levels, so we can't just say one size fits all."

"Because the show is being built currently, I have ideas of what I might be playing with the cast but you are definitely going to be seeing some songs, some very distinct characters, some very funny quick little jokes, and some audience participation," he explained.

"We're kind of giving you the gamut while we throw some material out there that might be fun and challenging to even talk about, and then things that are current."

He said last week's federal election will no doubt be one of the topics.

"It's a way to come together. We are all so divided all the time and with everything in our lives this time of the year. What is better to do than have a night out with friends or family, or on a date, and have laughs together?" Smith said. "And then you might remember it for many different reasons. So it's just so fun to have a night out."
