Children in Blind River are probably getting a bit excited about Santa Claus coming to town very soon.

After being cancelled for the last two years due to COVID restrictions, the parade is set to take place on Nov. 19.

Planning for the event is being done by the Blind River Figure Skating Club. Town council has also approved the parade and will ensure the parade route through the business core is properly cordoned off.

Club president Summer Jamieson is heading up the planning.

“The parade planning has been in full swing and at this point, I have confirmed we have 20-25 floats participating,” she said.

The confirmed floats are from all the schools in town, local OPP, EMS and fire and rescue.

“We also have some local businesses who will be involved,” Jamieson added.

Parade participants will assemble at WC Eaket school starting at 5:30 p.m. before the 6:30 p.m. start and will include walking and driving entries.

It is also being supported by the local Chamber of Commerce and will coincide with the Moonlight Madness shopping event.

“The Moonlight Madness and Santa Parade being held will offer a great evening of local entertainment and shopping for everyone,” she said.

Chamber president Garnet Young has voiced full support for the parade and is encouraging, “all merchants participate in some way if possible.”

Jamieson has also been in contact with Algoma Public Health to ensure all current COVID measures are in place for the parade.

“The only protocols are masking and social distancing.”

Those wishing to register can contact the club president at [email protected] or by phone at 705-562-1737.

The parade theme is “Anything Christmas.”
