Residential fire causes extensive damage, claims the life of one pet

ELLIOT LAKE FIRE DEPARTMENT

Fire Chief John Thomas announced today that on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 5:45 a.m. the Elliot Lake Fire Department received a call for a fire alarm activation at 113 Hillside Dr. N., Unit 5.

Upon arrival on scene, the fire department crew confirmed heavy smoke was visible. Damage was extensive, however crews were able to contain the fire to one unit.

One minor injury was reported, one pet was rescued, and one pet was deceased on scene.

Fire Chief John Thomas would like to remind the public that:

  1. Every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every store and outside all sleeping areas - it the law.
  2. It is recommended that you test the alarms once a month and replace the batteries at least once a year.
  3. Be cautious when using smoking materials.
