The Elliot Lake Red Wings hosted the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in a Saturday afternoon tilt at Centennial Arena and came away with a 6-2 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory.

The Red Wings opened up a 4-0 lead in the contest and sealed the win with a pair of goals after Kirkland Lake got on the board with a pair of goals in the second period.

Elliot Lake's Kjell Osborne opened the scoring midway through the opening period, beating Kirkland Lake netminder Zachary Reddy at 10:40.

Just over four minutes later, Sam Noad picked up his second goal of the season to extend the Elliot Lake lead at 14:42.

The Red Wings third goal came off the stick of Josh Tomasi at 8:11 of the second, on the power play before Cameron Dial made it 4-0 Red Wings at 11:39 of the second period.

The Gold Miners finally got on the score board when Jacob Hiltz scored his fourth goal of the season at 12:27 of the second.

Hiltz notched another goal at 17:34 to cut the Red Wings lead to 4-2 but Red Wings forward Brock McNaughton scored at 19:51 of the second to send the game into the third with the locals holding a 5-2 lead.

Tomasi capped off the scoring with his second of the night at 9:29 of the third.

McNaughton and Dial had a goal and an assist each for the Red Wings while Owen Lancaster and Callum McGill picked up a pair of assists each.

Silas Crawford assisted and Calum McGill came through with his second assist of the game on that one. The final score was Red Wings, 6-2.

Colton Donaldson was solid in goal for the Red Wings, stopping 27 shots in the win.

Reddy had a busy day at the other end, stopping 41 shots for the Gold Miners.

With the win, the Red Wings improve to 10-25-1-0. With 21 points, Elliot Lake has a three-point edge on the Espanola Express in the NOJHL's West Division standings.

Saturday's game also saw the Red Wings wear special jerseys as part of the organization's congenital heart disease awareness game.

All proceeds from the game, including an auction of Red Wings team jerseys, went to raise money for children with chronic heart problems.

Up next for the Red Wings is a game on the road against the Blind River Beavers on Sunday afternoon.
