A win at home followed by a road loss highlighted weekend play for the Elliot Lake Red Wings.

After a scoreless first period, Blind River forward Jesse Dupuis struck at 9:22 of the second to get the Beavers on the scoreboard, beating Elliot Lake goaltender Cameron Smith from the right faceoff circle.

Just 64 seconds later, Blind River defenceman Ethan Pegg beat Smith from the right point to make it 2-0..

Patrick Boivin got the win for the Beavers, picking up his first shutout with the club. He faced 14 Red Wings shots.

Smith made 31 saves for Elliot Lake.

It was a game that will go down in the history books as Brandy Beecroft became the first woman to referee a game in NOJHL history.

Also Sunday afternoon the Soo Thunderbirds beat the Espanola Express by a 4-1 score.

Up next for the Red Wings, a home game in Centennial Arena against French River Rapids next Friday night at 7 p.m.
