Red Wings blanked on the road

The Elliot Lake Red Wings went south of the border on Friday night to take on the Soo (Mich.) Eagles

The short trip wasn't an ideal one as the team returned home with a 4-0 road loss in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) play.

Eagles forward Chase Tallaire scored his second goal of the season at 4:59 of the first period, opening the scoring.

Zachary Briskey made the score 2-0 for the Eagles with 1:02 to go in the opening period.

In the second stanza, Isaiah Gagerman netted his first goal of the year for the Eagles to extend the lead at 13:59.

The Eagles came through with two more goals in the third to cap off the scoring.

Tallaire came back for his second goal of the night at 13:38 and Brian Fiddes capped off the Eagles scoring when he put the puck into the Elliot Lake goal at 18:37.

Cameron Smith took the loss for Red Wings, stopping 32 of the 37 shots that came his way.

Logan Raffaele was good for the win, stopping all 28 shots between the pipes for the Eagles.

Other Friday night play in the NOJHL saw the Timmins Rock take down the Cochrane Crunch by a 7-1. 

The Soo Thunderbirds dropped the French River Rapids, 3-1. The Hearst Lumberjacks dumped the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 7-1.

Meanwhile the Espanola Paper Kings took Blind River Beavers 6-2 and the Powassan Voodoos upended the Greater Sudbury Cubs by a 5-3 margin.

Powassan Voodoos thumped Greater Sudbury Cubs 5-3.   

Up next, the Red Wings play a game Saturday night at home against Powassan Voodoos. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at Centennial.Arena.
