Rainfall, wind warnings issued by Environment Canada

Much of the area is under a rainfall warning beginning tonight. Some areas are also under a wind warning with heavy wind gusts expected on Sunday

A low pressure system forecast to track through the area is expected to bring plenty of rain Saturday night into Sunday as well as wind gusts of up to 90 km/h on Sunday.

Heavy rainfall is expected to begin Saturday night and carry through much of the day Sunday before transitioning into snow on Sunday evening.

Up to 60 mm of rain is possible as part of the system and the heavy downpour could lead to flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Beginning on Sunday, heavy winds are also expected with wind gusts of up to 90 km/h beginnning late Sunday afternoon before easing by Monday morning. 

The heavy winds could lead to power outages and building damage. 

The areas affected by both advisories include:

  • Blind River - Thessalon
  • Espanola - Killarney
  • Manitoulin Island
  • Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay

The area including Elliot Lake and Ranger Lake is under the rainfall warning, but are not part of the wind warning at this time.
