Rainbow District School Board and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 614 have a new collective agreement at the local level.

The union represents approximately 280 educational assistants and communicative disorder assistants in Rainbow Schools in full-time, part-time and casual positions.

Local 614 members voted in favour of accepting the agreement April 4.

Rainbow District School Board Trustees approved the agreement at the regular meeting of the Board April 18.

The new deal will be in effect from Sept. 1, 2022 to Aug. 31, 2026, aligning with the provincial settlement at the central bargaining table.

OPSEU Local 614 President Lise Orsini said the round of bargaining on behalf of the members was very successful.

“The agreement was reached with meaningful discussions from both sides of the table,” she said.

“Rainbow District School Board values the work of its educational assistants and communicative disorder assistants,” said board chair Bob Clement. “They provide important services to students in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin.”

Clement commended the bargaining teams for the board and OPSEU Local 614 for working together to achieve a settlement.
