Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) reports seven new cases of COVID-19 for Sunday, May 16. 

With four COVID-19 cases being deemed resolved as of Sunday, there are now 60 active cases being monitored by public health officials, up three from the 57 active cases on May 15.  

Since the PHSD began tracking COVID-19 cases just over 14 months ago, there have been 2,055 total COVID-19 cases confirmed locally. PHSD also said 1,994 of those cases have now been resolved.  

With respect to where the newest COVID-19 cases might have occurred, the PHSD daily update page reported that five cases were found in the Greater Sudbury area and two cases were found in the rural Sudbury District.

In terms of possible causes of the new and other recent cases, PHSD reported that two cases were linked to close contact of confirmed case. One case was determined to be travel-related and one case has no known epidemiological link.

There are currently three cases that are under investigation.

On the provincial COVID-19 register Sunday, the Ontario government daily website reported 2,199 new confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported 30 new deaths had occurred in the previous 24 hours.
