Public Health Sudbury: no new COVID cases, eight days in a row

Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) reports zero new cases of COVID-19 for today, July 11. 

PHSD also said there are now 2 active cases being monitored by public health officials, a decrease of 2.  

Also, since the PHSD began tracking COVID-19 cases, there have been 2, 018 total COVID-19 cases confirmed locally. PHSD also said 2,014 of those cases have now been resolved.

With respect to where the newest COVID-19 cases might have occurred, the PHSD daily update page reported that zero were found in the Greater Sudbury area.

PHSD also reports general demographics each day about the people who are becoming infected.

Epidemiological data showed that the majority of local cases are persons in the 20 to 39 age category with 713 total cases.

The next highest group number was 545 cases for the 40 to 59 age group.

The next highest number was 517 cases for the 19 and under age group.

Seniors in the 60 to 79 age group amounted to 302 cases total, and people aged 80 and over are currently the lowest category with 94 cases. 

There were also no cases reported in the "unspecified category".

The numbers above may not completely correspond with the daily case count because PHSD does not always report changes on the day they occur.

With respect to COVID-19 testing, 262, 983 tests have been performed in the PHSD region as of July 9, an increase of 321 since the last PHSD test report. 

As for local vaccinations, PHSD reported a total of 209, 679 vaccines given in the entire PHSD area as of July 9 at 4 p.m. Of those, 126, 892 people have received their first dose, while 82, 787 are fully vaccinated. In terms of wasted doses, PHSD reports 218 doses wasted, or 0.10 per cent of the total. Public Health Sudbury has received 208, 728 total doses as of July 9.  

PHSD is also reporting there are six cases of "confirmed" variants of the COVID-19 virus. No change there after several days.

There are 979 cases that are "screened positive" for variants of concern, with no increase in 24 hours.

PHSD said additional time is required to genetically-sequence the virus in a positive sample and confirm it as a COVID-19 variant of concern.

Outbreaks

The outbreak at Discovery Early Learning Centre and Care (Holy Trinity Site) was declared over as of July 8. 

Also, at Sudbury's Health Sciences North, as of July 9 there were zero patients with confirmed COVID-19 at the hospital. As reported on the HSN website, this includes zero COVID-19 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). In addition to this there are 5 admitted patients "being tested" for COVID-19. None of the patients being tested has been admitted to the ICU at this time.

On the provincial COVID-19 register today, the Ontario government daily website reported 166 new confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported six new deaths had occurred in the previous 24 hours.
