Power went out in a section of Elliot Lake at around 6:30 p.m.
Several residents in the Axmith Road area reported seeing a large flash from a transformer.
A Hydro One spokesman said the outage affects about 600 customers.
Heavy snowfall and ice pellets may be to blame.
The power is expected to be back on by 9:15 p.m., the spokesman said.
