Algoma District School Board has confirmed a potential COVID-19 exposure in the Blind River Public School community.

This comes just after Algoma Public Health reported two new cases of the virus in the central and east Algoma area. Both exposure categories are close contact and both individuals are self-isolating, the health unit says.

This brings the region's total number of cases to 169. Currently, there are 21 active cases in the region, with two hospitalized.

The health unit says it is conducting a careful investigation to identify close contacts. If you are a close contact, you will be notified with guidance on next steps.

In an advisory on its website, ADSB advises parents that i"f you do not receive a call directly from APH, your child is not considered a close contact, in which case we do not recommend having your child tested unless they are showing symptoms of COVID-19."

Examples of close contacts include:

  • Household members
  • People who have been in direct physical contact
  • People who have spent more than 15 minutes together within two metres or six feet of each other, such as while sharing a meal or being in the same carpool

Brief interactions, like walking past someone in a hallway or on the sidewalk, are not generally considered close contact situations.
