Residents are eager to get the cue on as the new pool league begins Tuesday at the Moose Lodge, located at 26 Oakland Blvd.

The Elliot Lake House Pool League will begin regular games starting Tuesday at the Moose Lodge after the Bankside Café recently closed.

This league is a 15-week session.

Members who sign up and play are eligible for cash prizes. The cost to join and play in the league is $8 a week per player to play five games per match and so far, there are four teams signed up and the league is looking for more members.

League member and 10-year veteran Joanna Dumas-Moggy says this league helps others in the community to get out and meet new friends and get acquainted with the game.

“For me, it’s an amazing night where you meet new people and learn a new game,” she said. “Some of the players are old timers that have played for years and have shown patience and made the game fun for the new people that had no idea about the game. For most of us, it’s a social night to get together with friends.”

As for age groups and who can play, Dumas-Moggy said it’s geared toward ages 19 and up.

“No matter what, young or old, we have all ages in the league and all are treated with respect and are there to have fun.”

What made her want to start a new league was the recent closing of the Bankside Café, located beside CIBC on Elizabeth Square.

“Even though most of us were sad that the Bankside closed, we did not want to lose the league so the league members got together,” she said. “Yves Berube has done all the footwork to find us a place to have the league at the Moose Lodge and are looking forward to playing.”

For more information or to sign up, Dumas-Moggy said to come to the Moose Lodge, located at 26 Oakland Blvd on Oct. 3.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this story stated that the new pool league was all ages. The story has been updated to state that it is for ages 19 and up.
