MARATHON, ON — The pilot of a single-engine aircraft used the Trans-Canada Highway as a landing strip after the plane developed a mechanical issue on Tuesday afternoon.
He was able to put the aircraft down safely near Neys Provincial Park, west of Marathon.
"The pilot said the plane started to overheat. He found a spot that was straight enough just east of Coldwell, and was able to put the plane down without incident," said Marathon Fire Chief Earl Grigg.
No one was injured.
The incident forced the temporary closure of Highway 17 in the Coldwell area.
Ontario Provincial Police have not released further details as yet.
