With the number of people in Elliot Lake having two COVID-19 vaccines in their bodies, the Elliot Lake Family Health Team's Dr. Cathy Groh went to social media with the latest vaccine status Tuesday night.

She wrote, "Last week 630 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 at the Collins Hall, including 62 people who attended the first drop-in vaccination clinic. Algoma Public Health is reporting that 75.7 per cent of people aged 12 and older in Elliot Lake have had at least a first dose and 43.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

"There will be many opportunities for people to get their vaccines in the next few weeks. Vaccines are available at the Collins Hall by booking an appointment or coming to a drop-in clinic, at the pharmacies that are offering vaccines, or for people unable to leave their homes, by calling 705-461-8882 to arrange for a nurse to come to your home."

"The Family Health Team continues to call people who were vaccinated in the spring at the Collins Hall to book their second doses, and people can also call 705-461-8882 to book their appointments," she added.

"Vaccines are working. New daily cases and hospitalizations are decreasing steadily in Ontario. There are now no confirmed cases in all of Algoma. But this can change if there are groups of unvaccinated people who come together. Protect yourself, protect your family and friends. Get vaccinated," concluded Dr. Groh.

One reader had a question for her.

"We are getting our second shot on Friday, was just wondering which vaccine they are giving out at Collins Hall?"

Dr. Groh replied, "There will be both Pfizer and Moderna. Both are effective vaccines."

At Shoppers Drug Mart on Ontario Avenue, Pharmacist / Associate Owner Ana Lees has this update, "We have appointments available for vaccinations tomorrow (Thursday). People can call the pharmacy to book. We had a clinic on Monday and one today (Wednesday) that is all booked up."

"Another shipment of mRNA vaccine is arriving this week," concluded Lees.
