Snow squall warning in effect for:
- Agawa - Lake Superior Park
- Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay
Snow squalls are expected to develop quickly this morning as colder arctic air blasts in from Lake Superior in the wake of a sharp cold front.
Snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are expected in the heaviest snow squalls today and tonight and into Wednesday.
Strong and gusty winds will frequently cause white out conditions in blowing snow, especially in exposed areas near Lake Superior.
Snow squalls are expected to start drifting southward Wednesday, but are expected to remain north of the city of Sault Ste. Marie.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Road closures are possible.
Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
