Ontario reports 480 new COVID cases Monday

Public Health Ontario reported 480 new COVID cases today.

The latest updates noted 238 recoveries and two new deaths.

The Nov. 8 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 4,040 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 3,800 yesterday. 
  • 105 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, however that number is incomplete as more than 10 per cent of Ontario hospitals do not report to the bed census on weekends. 
  • There are 107 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 20 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 63 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 11 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • 11,089,632 Ontarians (about 75 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated. 88 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • Included in the new cases reported today are 244 unvaccinated, 13 partially vaccinated, and 191 vaccinated individuals. 32 cases were reported with the vaccination status unknown. 
  • Vaccination status for hospitalized cases is not reported on Sunday or Monday. 
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 7.1 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 2.6 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.7 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • The province reported 22,980 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 2.2 per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 53 are from Toronto, 39 are from Peel, 16 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 39 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 116 individuals under 12 years old, 39 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 151 people between 20 and 39 years old, 101 people between 40 and 59 years old, 58 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 15 people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 603,711 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 589,771 recoveries and 9,900 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 30,730 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 6,025 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,097.4 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 19.7 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 20.9 per cent compared to the week of Oct. 23.

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 569 cases, weekly rate of 29.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 570 cases. There are 62 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 90 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 849 cases, weekly rate of 26.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 840 cases. There are 32 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 87 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 83 per cent have both doses.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,233 cases, weekly rate of 11.8  cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,235 cases. There are 12 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 90 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 3,019 cases, weekly rate of 75.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,000 cases. There are 223 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 87 per cent have both doses.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 251 cases, weekly rate of 20.7 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 253 cases. There are 7 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,200 cases, weekly rate of 7.4 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,198 cases. There are 5 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 83 per cent have both doses.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,452 cases, weekly rate of 11.4 cases per 100,000 people. There are 25 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 93 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 89 per cent have both doses.
