Public Health Ontario has reported 3,480 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 28).
The new cases reported today include some data catch up of cases not previously reported from health units in the central-western portion of Ontario.
Today's report includes 4,517 recoveries and 24 new deaths.
Today's deaths include one person between 20 and 39 years old, one person between 40 and 59 years old, 12 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 10 people over the age of 79 years old.
The province has reported 197 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 27 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.
The April 28 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 38,853active cases, which is down from 39,914 yesterday.
- 2,281 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 2,336 reported yesterday.
- There are 877 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 875 yesterday) and 605 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 589 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 50,194 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 7.2 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 34,746 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 13.9 million tests have been completed.
- Of the 3,480 new cases reported today, 961 are from Toronto, 589 cases are from Peel, 290 are from York Region, and 65 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
- Today's cases include 648 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,383 people between 20 and 39 years old, 982 people between 40 and 59 years old, 407 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 67 people aged 80 and over.
Vaccines
- There were 116,173 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 27, which is up from 94,819 on April 26.
- As of 6 p.m. on April 27, the province reported 4,907,203 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 365,166 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 455,606 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 408,765 recoveries and 7,988 deaths, of which 3,919 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,065.1 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 186.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 10.7 per cent from last week (April 12 to April 18).

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:
- Algoma Public Health: 323 cases, weekly rate of 21 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 324 cases. There are 42 known active cases, including four people who are temporarily in the region but the case is not part of the local numbers.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 344 cases, weekly rate of 7.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 346 cases. There are 12 known active cases.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 583 cases, weekly rate of 94.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 581 cases. There are 107 known active cases.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,906 cases, weekly rate of 27.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,927 cases. There are 96 known active cases.
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 169 cases, weekly rate of 82.6cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 170 cases. There are 31 known active cases.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 888 cases, weekly rate of 76.4 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 908 cases. There are 72 known active cases.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,082 cases, weekly rate of 44.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,081 cases. There are 61 known active cases.
