Ontario reports 511 new COVID cases Monday

Public Health Ontario reported 511 new COVID cases today. 

The latest updates noted 488 recoveries and two deaths that have occurred in the last month.

The Oct. 4 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • Vaccination status for the new cases reported today has not yet been posted.
  • Vaccination status for hospitalized COVID-19 patients is not updated on Mondays.
  • 5,004 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 4,983 yesterday. 
  • 146 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. About 10 per cent of Ontario hospitals do not report bed census data on weekends so this number is incomplete.
  • There are 133 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 26 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.  
  • There are 85 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 19 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • As of yesterday, 10,599,457 Ontarians (about 71 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated and another 672,016 (four per cent of Ontario population) have a single dose of COVID vaccine. 86 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 9.5 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 4.6 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.5 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people. 
  • The province reported 23,667 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a two per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 85 are from Toronto, 88 are from Peel, 11 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 30 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 114 individuals under 12 years old, 35 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 164 people between 20 and 39 years old, 121 people between 40 and 59 years old, 58 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 18 people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 588,612 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 573,854 recoveries and 9,754 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 29,980 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 5,859 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,994.9 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 27.7 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 7.7 per cent compared to the week of Sept. 18-24.

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 473 cases, weekly rate of 1.7 cases per 100,000 people. There are 7 known active cases.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 762 cases, weekly rate of 8.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 764 cases. There are 25 known active cases.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,209 cases, weekly rate of 4.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,211 cases. There are 5 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,423 cases, weekly rate of 16.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,440 cases. There are 46 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 220 cases, weekly rate of 23.6 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 221 cases. There are 2 known active cases.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,182 cases, weekly rate of 11.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,164 cases. There are 7 known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,396 cases, weekly rate of 3.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,395 cases. There are 4 known active cases.
