Ontario confirms 1,003 new COVID cases today

There are nearly 8,400 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province

Public Health Ontario has reported 1,003 new cases of COVID-19 today, as well as 949 recoveries and 14 deaths. 

The province has reported the deaths of two people between 60 and 79 years old and 12 people over the age of 80. 

Since yesterday's report, 42 people have been hospitalized with the coronavirus and five COVID-19 patients have been admitted to intensive care units. 

Of the 1,003 cases reported today, more than half are from Toronto and the GTA. Toronto Public Health reported 300 of today's cases and Peel Public Health reported 280 new cases. York Region reported 125 of the new cases in today's update. The remaining 31 health units in Ontario reported between zero and 43 new cases. 

Cases are more prevalent in the 20 to 39-year-old and 40 to 59-year-old age categories, which account for 631 of today's new cases. 

The province reported 85 new school-related cases today. There have been 2,628 school-related cases reported to date including 914 cases in the last 14 days.

Since Nov. 1, the province has confirmed 5,953 new cases of COVID-19, 5,369 recoveries and 73 deaths. 

The province reported 41,268 COVID tests have been processed since yesterday's report, which is the highest number of tests processed in 24 hours this month so far. 

In November, health labs have processed 195,909 COVID-19 tests. The per cent of people who tested positive for COVID-19 has ranged between three and four per cent since Nov. 1 

There are currently 8,398 active, lab-confirmed cases in Ontario. Of those cases, 380 people are hospitalized. There are 86 COVID patients in intensive care units and 49 COVID patients on ventilators in hospitals across Ontario. 

Since the pandemic began, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 81,693 cases. Of those cases, 70,086 are reported recovered (85 per cent) and 3,209 people have died (4 per cent). 

Since Sunday, Nov. 1, Northern Ontario health units have reported 27 new confirmed cases of the virus. There have been a total of 548 cases and two probable cases reported in the north since the start of the pandemic.

The breakdown for the Northern Ontario health units, at the time of today’s provincial update, is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 47 cases, rate of 41.1 per 100,000 population. There are four known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 4.

  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 47 cases, rate of 36.2 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 49 cases. There are two known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 5.

  • Porcupine Health Unit: 99, rate of 118.6 per 100,000 population. There are two known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 1.

  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 140 cases, rate of 70.3 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 142 cases. There are 18 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 5.

  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 17 cases, rate of 52 per 100,000. There are no known active cases. The last case was reported Oct. 5.

  • Northwestern Health Unit: 77 cases, rate of 87.8 per 100,000. The health unit has also reported two probable cases. There are three known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 4.

  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 117 cases, rate of 78 per 100,000. There are no known active cases. 

The Ontario rate of infection is 549.6.
