NEWS RELEASE
ST. JOSEPH'S GENERAL HOSPITAL ELLIOT LAKE
************************************
St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) would like to advise the public that the C-Diff. outbreak on the third floor of our Acute Care Hospital, has ended. Unfortunately, there now is a Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) outbreak that has been declared by Algoma Public Health. VRE is an Antibiotic-Resistant Organism (ARO), that is often spread in a hospital or medical facility.

Existing visitation protocols, which strongly suggest compassionate circumstances only for our Acute Care Hospital, remain in place.

SJGHEL would like to remind all visitors that the following must happen when visiting the third floor of our acute care hospital:

  • Practice good hand hygiene, before and after leaving the room, (15 seconds of soap and running water OR alcohol-based hand rub until hands are dry).
  • You will be required to wear a long-sleeved gown and gloves while visiting a positive case.
  • If you are not feeling well, stay home and rest or contact your primary healthcare provider.

For more information on VRE and Antibiotic-Resistant Organisms (ARO), please contact Algoma Public Health at: (705) 942-4646 ext. 5404 or contact your family healthcare provider.

SJGHEL will update information on the Hospital outbreak as our information changes or more information becomes available.
