Elliot Lake St. Joseph’s General Hospital nurse Lynn Blanchette has raised $12,500 during her annual fundraiser for students in Elliot Lake.

The goal was to raise $10,000 this year, but it was surpassed from numerous donations. The money will be shared between Central Avenue Public School and Our Lady of Fatima Elliot Lake to benefit students.

“She is a Nurse at St. Joseph’s who raises money for students out of the kindness of her heart,” stated a news release issued today.

With generous donations from colleagues at the hospital, local businesses, family, friends and including a generous fundraising match from the local doctors with a $5,000 donation from Lynn Blanchette exceeded her goal.

“This has been an ongoing charitable effort by Lynn and these local Saints who continue to support these young students. The incredible people and businesses who donated generously were,” the release said.

Donation were received from hospital staff, Sign Rite, J Breen Coffee Service Limited, Chemnorth Systems and Services, MBS Plumbing and Heating Limited, E.L Leftovers, Blanchette Electrical Inc., DSR Construction, Stephane Duchesneau Ltd., Dr. Baseer U Khan Medicine, Professional Corp, Rona, Roland Aube Law Office, Tim Horton's, and Elliot Lake Local Education Group.

The donated money goes towards clothing, provides food opportunities like paying for hot lunches, pizza, milk programs and special meals for students. It is also used to give students opportunities to access after school programs and the costs of equipment for those activities. The money also helps students go to camps and leadership opportunities.

Having student support fundraising helps to support students with opportunities and support needs for all students.

"The generosity and caring coming from our community partners is incredible,” the release read.  “The fact that so many individuals are going out of their way to ensure our young students are getting as many opportunities as possible is very inspiring. These funds will go a long way with supporting our students and we are very appreciative of all the thoughtful people involved."

"The spirit of giving is alive and well. Caring citizens is a pillar for ADSB, and Elliot Lake demonstrates that quality repeatedly," said Central Avenue School Principal, Angelo D'Amato in the release.
